General Research Participation Questions
How do I know if I’m a fit for a study?
At Reevo, we don’t believe in "fishing" for respondents. We use your initial profile data to match you with studies that specifically require your expertise or lifestyle. If you receive an invite, it’s because our initial screening shows you are a high-potential match.
How and when do I get paid?
We value your time and expertise. Most studies are paid via PayPal. Once the study is complete and your responses are verified, payment is typically processed within 24 hours and no later than one week.
Understanding Our Main Study Types
What is a 1-on-1 Interview?
These are deep-dive conversations, usually conducted via video call (like Zoom or Google Meet) or occasionally in person. A researcher will ask for your honest thoughts on a specific product, service, or concept.
What is a Focus Group?
A focus group is a moderated discussion with 3 to 8 other peers. You’ll be asked to share your opinions on a topic, react to new advertisements, or brainstorm ideas together.
How does Product Testing work?
Brands want to know how their products perform in the real world. We will ship a physical product to your home (or give you early access to a digital app/platform) for you to use over a set period.
What are Short-Form Surveys?
These are quick, mobile-friendly digital questionnaires. Unlike typical "click-farm" surveys, Reevo surveys are highly targeted and respect your intelligence.
What are Other Study Types? (e.g. Ethnographies & Diary Studies)
For deeper insights, we offer multi-day studies where you document your daily routine, professional workflows, or "unboxing" experiences over a set period.
What to Expect: 1-on-1 Interview
A 1-on-1 interview is a guided conversation designed to understand the "why" behind your choices. You don't need to prepare or study; we are simply looking for your honest, articulate perspective.
To ensure the best results, our studies are led by independent, third-party moderators. Here is why that matters for you:
- Zero Bias: Our moderators are professional researchers contracted by major brands to find the truth, not to sell a product. They have no personal stake in the project and no bias walking into the room.
- Brutal Honesty Welcome: You can be as candid as you like. Whether you love a product or think a concept is completely broken, your moderator wants to hear it. Dislikes are often more valuable to a brand than likes, so please don't hold back.
- Your Advocate: The moderator’s job is to ensure your voice is heard clearly. They are there to listen, not to judge or "correct" your opinions.
Common types of questions include:
The Walkthrough Question
Example: "Can you walk me through the last time you used [Product/App]? What were you trying to accomplish, and where did you start?"
Goal: To understand your natural habits and workflow.
The Pain Point Question
Example: "Thinking about your current process for [Task], what is the single most frustrating part? If you had a magic wand, how would you fix it?"
Goal: To identify real-world problems that brands can solve.
The Reaction Question
Example: "I’m going to show you a new concept for a [Feature/Ad]. What is your first impression? Who do you think this was designed for?"
Goal: To get your immediate, unfiltered feedback on a new idea.
The Dream State Question
Example: "If you were designing this service from scratch for someone in your profession, what are the three things it must have?"
Goal: To tap into your expertise to guide future innovation.
What to Expect: Focus Groups
A focus group is a collaborative, moderated discussion with a small circle of your peers (typically 3 to 8 people). These sessions are dynamic and social, designed to see how different perspectives interact when discussing a new trend, product, or advertisement.
Just like our 1-on-1 interviews, every Reevo focus group is led by an independent, third-party moderator.
Moderator's Role:
-
The Neutral Ground: Our moderators are professional researchers, not brand employees. They have no personal attachment to the ideas being discussed and aren't there to "sell" you on a concept.
-
No Groupthink: Their primary role is to ensure every voice is heard—especially the dissenting ones. If you disagree with the rest of the group, your moderator will likely want to hear more from you, as those "outsider" perspectives often lead to the most important breakthroughs.
-
Open & Candid: Whether you are critiquing a new ad or praising a new feature, you can speak freely. The moderator is there to capture the truth of the room, not to guide you toward a specific "correct" answer.
-
The Environment: Most focus groups happen via video conference (like Zoom), though some are hosted in person at professional research facilities.
-
The Flow: A professional moderator will lead the group through a series of topics. While the moderator guides the conversation, the real magic happens when participants respond to each other’s ideas.
-
Your Role: You aren't just answering questions; you’re engaging in a dialogue. We look for participants who are articulate, respectful, and willing to build on—or politely disagree with—the points made by others.
Group Dynamics:
Common Focus Group Activities
Concept Reacting
The moderator might share their screen to show a "storyboard" for a new TV commercial or a mockup of a new brand logo. The group will then discuss what resonates and what falls flat.
The "Ideal World" Brainstorm
"If you were all in charge of [Company Name] for a day, what is the first policy or product feature you would change to make your lives easier?"
Word Association
"When I say the word [Brand], what are the first three things that come to mind for everyone in the group?"
User Journey Mapping
Sharing experiences about a common hurdle—like "signing up for a new healthcare plan"—to see if everyone struggles with the same steps.
What to Expect: Product Testing
Product testing is your chance to get hands-on with the future. Brands want to see how their products perform in real-world environments—your home, your office, or on your daily commute—rather than in a sterile lab.
-
The Arrival: Once you are matched and confirmed for a study, the product is shipped directly to your door (or, if it’s a digital product, you’ll receive an exclusive access link).
-
The Trial Period: You’ll be asked to use the product for a specific amount of time—this could be a single afternoon or a full two-week trial.
-
The Feedback Loop: Throughout the trial, you might be asked to "check in" via short mobile surveys, or simply provide one final, detailed review at the end of the study.
Common Product Testing Tasks
Unboxing & First Impressions
"Record a quick 30-second video of your reaction to the packaging. Was it easy to open? Did the instructions make sense?"
Daily Use Diaries
"Log every time you use this new beverage/skincare product/app over the next 5 days. How did it fit into your routine?"
The Stress Test
"Try to use the [Product] for its primary purpose, then tell us the one thing that felt clunky or difficult to understand."
Comparison Challenges
"We’ve sent you two unbranded versions of a similar product. Use both and tell us which one you’d actually buy."
What to Expect: Short-Form Surveys
Sometimes the best insights are the fastest ones. Short-form surveys allow us to gather broad perspectives on emerging trends and user needs with minimal disruption to your professional schedule. Unlike typical questionnaires, Reevo surveys are targeted and respectful of your expertise.
The Survey Experience:
Frictionless
Experience
Built for speed and mobility. Our surveys are 100% optimized for phone interaction, ensuring you can contribute whenever it's convenient for you.
High-Relevance Content
No generic questions. Reevo surveys are tailored to your professional profile, focusing on real-world challenges you navigate every day.
Quality Over
Quantity
We value high-impact insights. Reevo surveys ignore generic scales in favor of precision, ensuring your specific voice shapes brand decisions.
Additional Research Methods
Beyond interviews and surveys, we offer deep-dive methodologies for those who want to provide a more holistic look at their daily habits or professional workflows.
-
Multi-Day Diary & Community Studies Over the course of a few days or weeks, you’ll document your experiences with a specific activity or brand via a private digital platform.
-
What to expect: Short daily check-ins, photo or video uploads of your routine, and engaging with a small online community of people doing the same.
-
The Reward: These are higher-commitment and typically offer significantly higher compensation (e.g., $150–$500+).
-
-
Ethnographies (Shadowing) A researcher joins you in your natural environment—like your office, your kitchen, or while you shop—to observe how you interact with products in the real world.
-
What to expect: A "fly-on-the-wall" experience. You just go about your day while a neutral observer asks occasional clarifying questions.
-
The Reward: These provide the most "human" data possible and are among our most premium-paid opportunities.
-
-
Digital UX & Usability Testing Help tech brands find "bugs" or confusing layouts in their apps and websites before they go live.
-
What to expect: You’ll be asked to complete a specific task on a website (like "find the checkout button" or "sign up for a trial") while thinking out loud so we can hear your thought process.
-
Technology & Privacy
Do I need special equipment?
For most digital studies, a stable internet connection and a computer or smartphone with a working camera and microphone are all you need. We will always specify the tech requirements in your invitation.
Who sees my data?
During the recruitment phase, we only share streamlined, anonymized snapshots of your profile to ensure you are the right fit for a brand’s specific needs.
Anonymized Reporting: We actively flag and protect your Personally Identifiable Information (PII). When research findings are delivered to clients, participant profiles are anonymized to ensure your insights are heard while your identity remains private.
What if I need to cancel?
We understand that life happens. If you can no longer make an interview or focus group, we ask for at least 24 hours' notice so we can offer the spot to another member of the network.
Compensation & Payments
I completed a study. Where is my payment?
We value your time and make every effort to ensure your compensation is processed swiftly. Most payments are issued via PayPal within 24 hours of study completion, and no later than one week.
What if my payment is missing?
While our systems are automated, we are a human-led network, and occasionally a payment can fall through the cracks. If it has been more than 7 business days since you completed your study and you haven't received your funds:
-
Check your spam: Sometimes PayPal notifications end up in filtered folders.
-
